What is Generative Engine Optimization?

A plain-language explanation of GEO, how it relates to SEO, and what RankAssistAI actually implements.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of making a business easier for AI answer systems to understand, describe, and cite. It sits beside traditional SEO rather than replacing it.

What GEO is not

GEO is not a guarantee that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews will recommend your brand. Those platforms control their own answers. They change with wording, location, model version, and time.

RankAssistAI does not sell rankings, mention rates, or “AI #1” placement.

What the work usually includes

  • Entity clarity: consistent name, services, location context, and sameAs / organization signals so models do not confuse you with another company.
  • Answer-ready pages: definitions, comparisons, and FAQs written so a system can extract a direct explanation.
  • Source quality: pages and supporting materials that retrieval systems can actually find.
  • Technical foundations: crawlability, structured data, and internal links that keep the site understandable.

Traditional SEO still matters. Many generative systems retrieve web pages. Weak technical SEO and thin content make GEO harder, not easier.
